Jen Abrams’ work has been presented regularly at Dixon Place, as well as at LaMama, BAX, HERE, WAX, and at WOW Café Theater, where she has been a member for nine years. Most recently her work has been seen at Dance New Amsterdam and as part of the DancenOw 2008 Festival. The New York Times called her work “compelling,” and offoffoff.com called it “sharp…full of comic tension…[a] gem.”
She was a 2005 BAX space grantee, and a 2007 Dance Theater Workshop Outer/Space resident. In 2003 and 2004 she was co-producer with Sally Silvers of TalkTalk WalkWalk, a poetry/dance festival featuring over 140 artists. The Village Voice has called her work “quintessentially New York,” and her performances “convincing no matter what [she chooses] to do.”
Jen has taught Contact Improvisation since 1994, most recently at Movement Research and Dance New Amsterdam. She is trained as an actor, and performed throughout Chicago before moving to NYC to focus on movement-based performance. She is also a writer, and has given readings of her work at St. Mark’s Poetry Project, the Nuyorican, Halcyon, and Bar 13. Jen graduated from Oberlin College with a BA in Theater and Dance in 1993.
